April 30 program at KTOS Center to feature Iowa Attorney General Miller
To address current and future issues of elder abuse in Iowa, two area agencies on aging and community partners will hold a special conference April 30. Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller will be one of several presenters at the “Elder Abuse Conference: Investigations, Assessments, and Interventions” at the Kirkwood Training and Outreach Services Center, 3375 Armar Drive. from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Attorney General Miller will discuss “Criminal Enforcement of Crimes Against the Elderly.” Other presentation topics are: “Investigating Financial Crimes,” “Investigating Community and Facility Abuse,” “The Role of Substitute Decision Making in Preventing Abuse,” and “Elder Abuse and the Law—Beyond Prosecution.”
The conference is sponsored by the Heritage and Hawkeye Valley Area Agencies on Aging, the Elder Abuse Initiative program and Linn County Seniors Against Crime Triad. Additional corporate funding is provided by the Iowa Popcorn Company and Bank of the West.
There is no charge for the conference itself and lunch is provided. However, there will be a charge for CEU and CEH education credits, available for attending the presentations.
This section is approved for 0.72 CEU’s for nurses, direct care staff, medical assistants and 7.2 CEH’s for social workers, nursing home administrators and residential administrators. Nursing CEU’s approved by the Iowa Board of Nursing, provider number 30. The $15 payment is due at the time of registration.
