Web-based news service evolves from 37 years of Involvement publication
A new Web site, www.involvementonline.org, is now available as a resource for older Iowans. The site is a joint venture of the Heritage Area Agency on Aging and Kenelle Imaging, a Coralville design and Web development company. Involvement Online is a continuation of the Involvement Magazine, which ceased publication in June 2009 due to budget cutbacks after 37 years in print.
“We are very glad to be able to continue the Involvement Magazine online,” said Elizabeth Selk, Heritage Agency executive director. “There are features that are possible online that weren’t feasible in the print version.”
After three years as editor of the Involvement Magazine, Ken Hinshaw is continuing in this role for Involvement Online. “It’s very exciting to develop the Web site and expand on what the Involvement Magazine is able to do. Our goal is to make it an invaluable resource for older Iowans by gathering and presenting information in an easy-to-use web site,” Hinshaw said.
Involvement Online will feature information that is written by the Heritage Area Agency on Aging staff, guest columnists, feature stories, a resource directory and an events calendar. A popular feature, “Senior Expressions,” will continue a forum to share creative writing for area seniors. Residents 60 and up who wish to submit short works of prose or poetry can submit via e-mail:

“The online version of the Involvement Magazine will continue to do virtually everything the print version did, while also enabling new features,” Hinshaw said. “The site will be able to present more photos and add videos. The information will be archived, and content can be searched within the site. We can also be more timely, by updating content throughout the month rather than being tied to a monthly print schedule.”
