Kirkwood student is combining passion with power to succeed

Hard-working, easy-going and driven are just a few words that can be used to describe Aric Lefebure, diesel agriculture major at Kirkwood Community College.
“My junior year of high school I took an auto class and found that it wasn’t for me but I still wanted to stick with something related to farming,” said Lefebure who said he has had a passion to farm since he started walking.
Originally from the small town of Fairfax, Lefebure was an honor roll student who graduated from Prairie High School in 2008 with a 3.4 GPA. He grew up on a farm and worked with his father as a hired hand operating the equipment.
During high school he was also very active in the marching band at Prairie. Lefebure has made the dean’s list at Kirkwood, and has now been named as one of the college’s outstanding students.
“I came to Kirkwood because it has the best mechanics program in the area and Iowa,” said Lefebure. He added that he also wanted to stay close to home so he could continue working on the family farm, which keeps him busy outside of school.
When not working, he said he enjoys riding his four-wheeler around the farm and being with his family and friends. Lefebure said that his dad is his role model.
“Since the day I could walk, he has always been around me and he has taught me everything I know. I am who I am because of him,” said Lefebure.
He said the hardest lesson he’s had to learn since coming to Kirkwood was adjusting to the new environment and the new people.
Lefebure said would like other students to know that Kirkwood has a very good ag program with great teachers who are always happy to help.
“It is an education that you won’t be disappointed with,” he added.
Following this year Lefebure plans to returning to Kirkwood to major in Agriculture Business. When finished with college, he plans to continue to farm with his family.
