Memorial Day weekend event at Iowa Equestrian Center one of the area’s largest each year

Horse enthusiasts from across the Midwest will be spending their Memorial Day weekend in Cedar Rapids as part of the Memorial Day Classic Paint Horse Show. The event is hosted annually by the Iowa Equestrian Center at Kirkwood Community College.

The show will be held May 23-25 and is expected to attract exhibitors from as far away at Texas and Michigan. Always one of the Iowa Equestrian Center’s most popular shows, participation is once again expected to overflow the facility’s 210 permanent stalls.

Organized by the Iowa Paint Horse Club, the event will feature 10 judges over three days, which adds to its drawing power. “That allows exhibitors to accumulate points and that’s one of the things that helps make this show popular,” said Center Director Patrick Klatt.

The show starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings and is free and open to the public. For more information, go to the Center’s website at www.iowaequestrian.com and click on the schedule of events, or call 319-398-7107.
