May 1 gourmet food and wine tasting event also a “reveal” for concert lineup
Local “foodies” are marking their calendars for the third annual KCCK Taste of Jazz Under the Stars, May 1 in The Class Act at Kirkwood Community College. The food and wine tasting event pairs the food expertise of Kirkwood College culinary students with wine from 1st Avenue Wine House and New Pioneer Co-op.
“This fun event also serves as the final exam for the Capstone Culinary students finishing the Hospitality Program here at Kirkwood,” says Lisa Baum, KCCK development director.
Patrons will sample food inspired by the home cities of the world’s great jazz festivals. Four jazz festivals were selected and the students have developed recipes that showcase each region.
“From Montreux to Newport and Monterey to the North Sea, participants will sample traditional foods with an exciting twist,” says Baum. “It’s easy to see the depth of knowledge of these budding chefs.”
The event also serves as the official launch for Jazz Under The Stars, the area’s longest-running jazz concert series, held each Thursday in August at Noelridge Park. A surprise musical guest will give a “taste” of what music fans can expect during this year’s concerts. There will also be a silent auction which will feature, among other things, private performances by area jazz artists.
Wines are provided by various wine distributors through 1st Avenue Wine House and New Pioneer Co-op.
Tickets are $45 per person and may be purchased by calling 319 398 5446. Proceeds benefit Jazz Under the Stars. Jazz Under The Stars sponsors include Pat McGrath Chevyland and Dr. Fitzgerald and Associates.
Jazz 88.3 KCCK-FM is a locally-programmed public radio station owned by Kirkwood Community College, broadcasting in analog FM and HD Radio at 88.3 FM. Johnson County translator at 106.9 FM and webcasting at www.kcck.org.
