Cypress, Texas (April 2, 2016)-Former Kirkwood Eagle men’s basketball star Devan Douglas won the 2016 State Farm College Slam Dunk Contest on Thursday night (3/31) in front of a nationwide audience.

The four-dunk championship performance by Douglas included a notable one-handed dunk, a 360-degree rotation throw down, a slam while jumping over another player and a self-alley-oop reverse. He was awarded a championship belt after receiving the highest total score from the competition judges.

Douglas, who transferred to the University of Mary after Kirkwood, also made his mark as an Eagle. Originally recruited by former Kirkwood Head Coach Doug Wagemester, his career at Kirkwood spanned from 2011 to 2013. Over his two years, he helped the team to a 46-15 record. In his second season, Douglas was named an honorable mention All-Region selection.

As a senior for the University of Mary Marauders, Douglas was one of the team leaders in multiple statistical categories. He ranked third on the team in three-point percentage (.361), assists (47) and assists per game (1.5). He also was fourth on the team in rebounds with 147. The Marauders finished the season in third place in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

The slam-dunk win by a former Eagle comes on the heels of the recent National Junior College Athletic Association Division II National Championship run by the Kirkwood men’s basketball team.
