The Eagles line up before last year’s Dig Pink match

Match will be held Wednesday, October 26

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Kirkwood Community College #11 ranked volleyball team will host its third annual Dig Pink match on October 26, against Indian Hills Community College at 6:30 p.m. All fans are encouraged to wear pink.

Kirkwood is one of 965 teams participating nationwide to help raise funds for breast cancer research. All funds raised will benefit the Side-Out Foundation; a Virginia-based, non-profit organization dedicated to cancer awareness, education and research.

In addition to the Dig Pink event, six sophomores will be honored in their final home match as Eagles. Sophomore Night festivities are set to take place prior to the start of the match.

Last year’s Dig Pink campaign was a big success, largely due to a Guinness Book of World Record attempt at the most people blowing a chewing gum bubble simultaneously. According to Student Life Coordinator Seth Vander Tuig, “There were 352 participants who attempted a bubble, with 304 participants successfully blowing a bubble.” Guinness World Record officials later approved the world record.

Funds raised through a 50/50 raffle, t-shirt and bracelet sale, bake sales and game day donations totaled more than $2,700 for breast cancer research, making a two-year total of more than $5,700 raised.

The women continue an undefeated conference run with a 5-0 record and a 21-5 overall record.

For anyone unable to attend the Dig Pink event, the game will be streamed live via the Internet at:
