A Pair of Eagles Honored by NJCAA

Amanda Lambrecht and Jena Malmen receive National Player of the Week accolades

For the second time this season, the NJCAA recognized Kirkwood Community College softball players as Division II National Players of the Week.

Sophomore pitcher Amanda Lambrecht has been a key contributor to the Eagles success this season. As NJCAA Pitcher of the Week, Lambrecht helped lead the No. 6 Eagles to an impressive 9-1 record last week. The East Moline, IL native moved to 9-2 on the year after posting five shutout wins with 45 strikeouts and only five walks. She allowed just seven hits and two runs in the five-game span. Lambrecht boasts a 0.95 ERA with 99 strikeouts on the year and was named ICCAC Player of the Week last week.

Freshman catcher Jena Malmen had a huge week at the plate for the Eagles. The Orion, IL native batted .581 and recorded eight doubles, six homeruns, eight runs and had an impressive 19 RBI’s. In her best outing of the week, Malmen went 4 for 4 with a two-run, walk-off homerun against North Platte to win the game 5-3. She has been recognized as ICCAC and NJCAA Player of the Week for her outstanding performances.

Lambrecht plans to attend Southern Illinois-Edwardsville to continue her student-athlete career, and Malmen plans to finish her second year at Kirkwood then transfer to a four-year school.

The Eagles are back in action on Friday with a home conference doubleheader against Ellsworth Community College at 3 p.m.
