Brennan Cougill and Chanda Goedken make commitments for next season

Kirkwood Community College men’s basketball standout Brennan Cougill will bring his talent to NCAA Division I University of Wisconsin-Green Bay next season, and volleyball All-American Chanda Goedken continues her student-athlete career at the University of Sioux Falls.

Cougill had a stellar sophomore season, leading the Eagles to a fifth place finish at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. Seeing action in all 30 games, he led the team in points (14.3), rebounds (8) and blocks (0.9) per game. The 6’9” forward, threw down 433 total points, accounting for nearly 130 more points than any other Eagle. The Sioux City, Iowa native received many postseason honors including NJCAA Division II Third Team All-American, First Team All-Region and Region XI Tournament MVP.

Cougill transfers to Wisconsin-Green Bay with plenty of Division I experience under his belt. As a former Iowa Hawkeye, Cougill competed in 31 games during his freshman campaign, averaging four points and three rebounds per game.

Next season, Cougill will join the Phoenix’s lineup alongside former Eagle Jarvis Williams. Last year, Green Bay had an overall record of 14-18 with an 8-10 conference record. The Phoenix completed the season with a loss to Wright State in the Horizon League Championship game.

As a two-time All-Region, All-Conference and NJCAA All-American honoree, Chanda Goedken will join NAIA Division II University of Sioux Falls as an outside hitter. The 5’10” Farley, Iowa native recorded 400 kills and 454 digs this season, finishing her junior college career with 977 kills and 978 digs. Academically, she was named to the ICCAC’s academic first team and was a member of the Dean’s list. In her final season, Goedken helped lead the Eagles to an eighth place finish at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.

Head USF volleyball coach Lisa Mathes-Peters believes Goedken will be a great addition to the Cougars. “Chanda brings experience to the Cougars, and I am extremely excited to have her join our team and compete at the outside position.”

The Cougars ended the 2010 season with an overall record of 21-19 and an 8-8 conference record. The 2011 season marks the Cougars final season as an NAIA Division II sanctioned team. Beginning with the 2012-2013 season, the Cougars will join the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference at the NCAA Division II level.
