What is your background? Hometown? High school? Family members?: I’m from Hopkinton, Iowa and graduated from Maquoketa Valley High School. My mom’s name is Julie and my dad’s name is Dave. I have two sisters named Betsey and Taylor. I grew up on a farm with 250 acres of corn and soybeans, and an 800 custom head hog operation. We recently switched to 60 head cow/calf operation.
What brought you to Kirkwood and why?: I came to Kirkwood because it was close, affordable, has wonderful programs and small class sizes. I was positive this is where I wanted to go by my sophomore year in high school.
What is your program of study?: I actually started in Ag Production Management with an emphasis in crops and beef and graduated in May of 2015. However, I am coming back this fall to complete the Ag Geospatial Technology degree.
Are you involved in anything else on campus? If so, what and why?: I chose to get involved to meet new people and expand horizons. It’s all about learning – that is why I am here! I’m involved in:
- Jazz Transit
- Concert Choir
- Environmental Club
- Crops Judging Club
- Ag Tech Club
- Kirkwood Peer Advisor – I spent this past summer helping with new students at orientation and getting them registered for classes. Specifically, I helped with those interested in the Ag programs.
Are you involved in anything off of campus?: I am involved in a couple of things. I am still actively involved in FFA in I am a member of the American Soybean Association, the National Corn Growers Association, the Iowa Corn Growers Association and the Iowa Corn Collegiate Advisory Team.
What do you do for fun?: I love to go motorcycle riding, snowmobiling and show dairy cattle.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?: I would like to expand my family’s involvement with Syngenta Seed and be in the process of starting my own farm. I would also like to be married and possibly have kids. I plan to reside in Delaware County Iowa.
