DMACC takes home court advantage against the Eagles
The Kirkwood Community College Women’s Basketball team is one step closer to the NJCAA National Tournament with a Region XI tournament victory over Ellsworth Community College on Tuesday. The women had a 25-7 lead heading into halftime, but Ellsworth came out strong in the second half scoring 32 points. The Eagles kept fighting and battled to a 56-39 victory.
Leading the team in scoring was sophomore Diamon Beckford (Upper Darby, PA) with 12 points, followed by freshman Whitney Rohrbach (Metamora, IL) with 11. Ashley Birts (Milwaukee, WI) grabbed 13 rebounds and had 8 points.
The men’s basketball team moves to the next round after a 69-47 victory over Clinton Community College last night. Leading the team in scoring was freshman Louis Cox (Brooklyn Park, MN) with 14 points, followed by sophomore Brennan Cougill (Sioux City, IA) scoring a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Alex Coleman (Cedar Rapids, IA) added 10 points and 8 rebounds.
Both the men and women travel to Boone to take on conference rival DMACC in the semifinal round of the NJCAA Region XI Tournament. The women play at 6 p.m. Friday, and the men play at 1 p.m. Saturday.
