Day and night sessions at Kirkwood to accommodate more participants
On Wednesday, Sept. 21, a Kirkwood Community College recreation facility will be transformed into a “higher education shopping mall,” in two different sessions. 1,200-1,500 prospective students and their parents can compare many college choices in one location. The annual Eastern Iowa College Fair at Kirkwood’s session are from 9-11 a.m. and again from 6:30-8 p.m.
Representatives of nearly 100 higher education institutions will talk with interested area residents in the Wednesday morning session in Kirkwood’s Michael J Gould Kirkwood Recreation Center. Public and private colleges and universities from Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, South Dakota and Wisconsin as well as every corner of Iowa will be represented.
The evening portion of the fair was added this year to accommodate parents’ working schedules.
“We always have such a huge turnout of high school students at our college fair,” said Kirkwood Dean of Admissions Doug Bannon. “This year we wanted to make sure their parents could come too. They’ll be able to ask questions and help guide their sons and daughters through choosing the college that’s right for them.”
Bannon also emphasized that the college fair is an opportunity to narrow a list of possible college campuses to visit and get information on a variety of colleges at one time.
The 2011 Eastern Iowa College Fair is free and open to all interested persons. More information on the college fair is available from the Kirkwood Admissions office, 319-398-5517.
