Cedar Rapids, Iowa (June 15, 2015)—Kirkwood Community College’s annual Water and Wastewater Conferences, June 22 – 23 and July 27 – 28, respectively, will focus on maintenance. Industry leaders from across Iowa and surrounding states will converge and discuss options for maintaining a safe water supply.

According to Kim Fensterman, program developer, “The summer conferences are offered to provide certified operators in Iowa and surrounding states the information needed in the ever changing rules and regulations of the water and wastewater profession. In addition, topics are presented to relay information to add resources to assist operators to make water safe for the public.”

The conferences have taken place for 25 years. Some of the topics this year include: chemical pump maintenance and repair, disaster management, controlling external corrosion, line stations and general pump maintenance, and lowering nitrates in effluent. Those in attendance will also have the opportunity to visit the Cedar Rapids’ water and wastewater plants and view their changes post-flood of 2008.

There are two separate conferences. The Water Conference runs June 22 – 23. The Wastewater Conference will be held July 27 – 28. Conference attendees may renew their current licenses for the upcoming renewal period and earn continuing education units.

Both conferences take place at the Kirkwood Continuing Education Training Center located at 101 50th Avenue S.W. in Cedar Rapids. Cost to attend each conference is $135. For more information visit www.kirkwood.edu/ce.
