The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference has named Heather VanHyning as its Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The sophomore catcher from Colona, Ill. was honored for her exceptional play in the second week of April.
Over a ten-game span, April 6-12, VanHyning came to the plate a total of 36 times. In 31 at-bats she reached base safely 23 times and earned a .581 batting average. That resulted in 12 runs scored, including 7 of her own. Over that stretch she also belted two home runs and hit 4 doubles.
After graduation in May Heather VanHyning plans to attend Central Missouri State on a softball scholarship while majoring in early childhood education.
