Heather Vanhyning earns honors and praise for Eagles performance
Another Kirkwood Community College student-athlete has playing plans after graduation. Eagles Softball standout Heather Vanhyning will transfer to Central Missouri State University following her graduation from Kirkwood in the spring of 2009.
Vanhyning played both outfield and catcher roles for the Eagles in the 2007-08 season. The Colona, Ill. native is expected to play a key role in the upcoming season for Kirkwood.
The Central Missouri State Jennies are a noted NCAA D-II power. Eagles Coach Joe Yegge called Vanhyning’s contributions “a great influence” on Kirkwood’s performance last season.
“Heather has real leadership and ability to play the sport. She is going down to Central as a junior, with solid experience playing the game at college speed. We are sure she will excel in Warrensburg,” Yegge added.
Vanhyning earned a spot on the ICCAC All-Region Second Team in her first year at Kirkwood. She will take her Kirkwood degree in Early Childhood Education to Central Missouri State, where she expects to continue in pursuit of a baccalaureate degree in education.
Coach Yegge is entering his second season as Kirkwood head softball coach. In 2007-08 the Eagles were 24-26.
