Cedar Rapids, Iowa (April 6, 2016)-Kirkwood Community College will host High Tech Girls Day this Friday, April 8, targeting local middle school and high school girls interested in exploring business and information technology careers. High Tech Girls Day will take place in Nielsen Hall on Kirkwood’s main campus from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Students will take part in interactive workshops and presentations on graphic communication technology, computer support, hardware repair and other in-demand technology careers in business and information technology.
Kirkwood program coordinator Sharon Blanchard is part of the High Tech Days organizing team and says that each event introduces area middle school and high school students from eighth grade to seniors to high paying, high demand career ideas.
“The program’s goals are to expose students to technology that may not be available in their local high schools or at home to spark interest in these in-demand industries,” said Blanchard. “Students have the unique opportunity to learn from our faculty that teach in the IT programs through hands-on labs emphasizing in different exciting fields.”
