Bob DeForest only second radio person ever honored by Iowa group

Bob DeForest, host of “da Blues” on Jazz 88.3 KCCK, will be inducted into the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame on Sunday, September 21 at a ceremony in Des Moines.

DeForest is only the second radio personality ever to be inducted into the Iowa Hall of Fame, the other being KUNI’s Bob Dorr. DeForest says that actually it was Dorr who got the ball rolling for his fellow DJ.

“Bob lobbied the Linn County Blues Society to nominate me. I’m grateful to him and to the club for making the effort. It’s hard to believe that I’ll be listed along with so many of my Iowa musical heroes. I’m honored and humbled to be a part of the Hall of Fame,” DeForest said.

Bob DeForest has hosted “da Blues” on KCCK since 1992. He is a charter member of the Linn County Blues Society. Other local musicians who will be inducted this year include Catfish Keith and Dennis “Daddy-O” McMurrin.

The Iowa Blues Hall of Fame Induction ceremony will take place Sunday, September 21st at Blues On Grand, 1501 Grand Avenue, Des Moines. Doors open at 5 p.m. More information is available at www.bluesongrand.com .
