Students help raise money for the Play 4Kay initiative
This is the second time Kirkwood has won the award
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation for Cancer Research, announced the divisional winners of the 2013 Play 4Kay initiative. Kirkwood was the Junior College/Community College winner and joined five other schools in receiving the award.
The national fundraising effort is in memory of former North Carolina State University head coach Kay Yow, who was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and battled the disease until 2009.
From February 8 to February 18, more than 1,500 teams and individuals donated or participated in the 2013 initiative, amplified by an event-high 24 teams receiving coverage across the ESPN network. The organizations, raising the most funding in each division, were recognized at the Wow 4Yow Welcome Party on Friday, April 5, held in conjunction with the 2013 Women’s Final Four and WBCA National Convention.
The schools receiving awards are:
•NCAA Division I:

•NCAA Division II:

•NCAA Division III:

•NAIA:

•Junior College/Community College:
