Changes to include increased degree options and larger english language learning program
CORALVILLE, Iowa (June 6, 2023)–Kirkwood Community College is proud to announce the expansion of its educational offerings at the Kirkwood Regional Center at the University of Iowa in Coralville. The college has responded to the increasing demand for English language learning opportunities in the region by providing comprehensive English as a Second Language (ESL) and English Language Acquisition (ELA) courses, available throughout the summer and in upcoming terms.
With over 400 students already enrolled in ESL courses and an additional 200 students signed up for ELA credit courses, the regional center is poised to become a thriving hub for English language learning. Classes began in May, offering a supportive and inclusive environment for students seeking to enhance their language skills. The Coralville location is strategically positioned to accommodate growing immigrant populations in Tiffin and neighboring areas.
Kirkwood will also introduce a larger range of regular credit classes beginning in the upcoming fall semester. Students will have the chance to earn a comprehensive A.A. degree at the regional center, along with specialized pre-nursing and health professions-focused A.A.S. degrees.
Under the 2+2 Guaranteed Graduation program agreement with the University of Iowa, Kirkwood students will receive personalized assistance to facilitate a seamless transfer process directly to the university. This collaboration extends to the Business Administration track within the agreement, enabling students to pursue their academic journey at esteemed institutions such as the University of Iowa Tippie College of Business, Mt. Mercy University, and Coe College.
The lower level of the Coralville location will feature an array of resources and support services for students. This includes TRIO ESL student support services, a student food pantry, and the Learning Commons Academic Resource Support Center. The latter will provide a conducive environment for studying, equipped with computers, IT support, as well as writing and tutoring services.
Additionally, the regional center will offer a comprehensive range of student services to ensure a fulfilling and well-rounded educational experience. These services include academic advising, accommodation services, admissions, career services, counseling services, financial aid, enrollment services, global learning, student assistance, student life events and a testing center.
To showcase the facility and discuss educational opportunities, the Kirkwood Regional Center at the University of Iowa will be organizing tours and visits throughout the summer. Interested individuals are encouraged to schedule a tour by contacting Kristie Leeman at kristie.leeman@kirkwood.edu or by phone at 319-887-3603.
