Kirkwood Nursing students work in the Katz Family Healthcare Simulation Center
Cedar Rapids, Iowa (February 10, 2016)–Test scores for registered nursing (RN) students in Kirkwood Community College’s Program of Nursing recently topped the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) first-time test-taker pass percentage. This surpasses all other Associates Degree of Nursing (ADN) programs in the state of Iowa.
NCLEX is a nationwide examination for the licensure of nurses. This license provides the individual the permission to practice nursing within the state where he or she met the requirements.
Out of 131 students who took the NCLEX-RN licensing exam, 130 passed or 99.24 percent. This also surpassed the NCLEX-RN first-time test taker pass percentage of all but one of the 14 Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs in Iowa, including four-year colleges.
The Practical Nurse (PN) licensure exam had a 100 percent pass rate among the 54 students taking the NCLEX-PN. This also surpassed the NCLEX-PN first-time test-taker pass percentage of all other Iowa PN programs.
“Our advisory committee members, made up of local medical and hospital employers, are continually seeking Kirkwood graduates,” said Kirkwood’s Dean of Nursing Kathy Dolter. “This is outstanding news for our community.”
