Facility educators will encourage better understanding of the democratic process
The Education Department at the Iowa Medical Classification Center will sponsor a mock vote for offenders on November 4, 2008 from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The voting is open to all General Population offenders and is a culminating event for a ten week curriculum on the political processes involved in United States elections. Offenders from the Literacy programs at IMCC will serve as poll workers.
The purpose of the educational unit was to teach offenders about the voting process, the responsibilities associated with voting, the laws that govern reinstitution of their rights as future electors and the effects voting or not voting can have on individual citizens.
