The Kirkwood Veterinary Technology Center
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Oct. 7, 2024)–Kirkwood Community College’s Veterinary Technician program will host its annual open house on Saturday, October 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Veterinary Technology Center on the institution’s main campus in Cedar Rapids. The event offers the community an opportunity to learn more about the veterinary technician program and profession, with students showcasing the dogs they have been working with throughout the term. In addition to demonstrations, the open house will feature food and a silent auction, with all proceeds going toward scholarships for Veterinary Technician students.
Attendees will also have the chance to meet four dogs available for adoption. These dogs have been trained by students in basic commands, leash training, and social interaction, and are ready to find their forever homes. More information about the dogs can be found on the Kirkwood website.
The Veterinary Technician program at Kirkwood prepares students to work alongside veterinarians providing medical care to animals. Students gain hands-on experience working with a variety of animals, including dogs, cats, horses, and small mammals, while developing essential skills such as assisting in surgery, performing physical exams, conducting lab work, and the administration of medications and vaccines, among others.
