D-II national champion student-athletes decide on four-year transfer schools for fall 2009
Kirkwood Community College Women’s Basketball Head Coach Kim Muhl announced on Thursday the college plans of four of his graduating sophomores.
NJCAA Division II National Tournament MVP El Sara Greer (Waterloo, Iowa) will attend Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. Oregon State is a member of the Pac-10 conference. Greer averaged 7.0 points and 9.1 rebounds per game for the Eagles this past year. She blocked a school record 111 shots this past season and a school record 196 shots in her career. She chose Oregon State over Creighton, UNLV and the University of Texas San Antonio.
Nicole Holman (Louisville, KY) chose the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to continue her career. This past season, she averaged 6.5 points per game. Holman shot 39.1% (50-128) from three point range, dished out 73 assists and had 55 steals for the Eagles.
MyKenya Johnson (Des Moines, Iowa) has signed with Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, GA. Johnson scored a team high 16 points in the NJCAA Division II championship game this past March, and averaged 7.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game during the season.
Previously, Jayne Strand (Ames, Iowa) had signed with the University of Northern Colorado, Strand averaged 8.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
Kirkwood finished with an overall 36-1 record in 2008-09, including a 30-game winning streak on the way to its third straight NJCAA Division II national title. Coach Kim Muhl has won five national championships in 20 years at Kirkwood, taking the school to 13 national tournaments, including the last seven. He has a 587-111 career record.
