Cobb family, company provide support for up to 20 students

Long-time friends of Kirkwood Community College have created a new opportunity to the college’s students who face hardship from recent floods. World Class Industries, Inc., President Brent Cobb and company founder Pat Cobb have donated funds to the Kirkwood Foundation for student assistance in the coming academic year.

Pat Cobb is a long-time member of the Kirkwood Foundation Board of Directors. Up to 20 students will be eligible for $500 scholarships made possible by the gift.

Kirkwood Vice President of Resource Development Kathy Hall said the Cobbs “lead by example” with this donation.

“We greatly appreciate these stalwart Kirkwood supporters and their recognition of the needs of our students at this exceedingly difficult time. The recent flooding has created dire situations for thousands of people in Iowa. Even in the first weeks we are hearing of many students deeply impacted. The heartfelt leadership of the Cobb family should inspire our whole community and make a crucial difference to people rebuilding not only their homes but their whole way of life,” Hall said.

The World Class Industries, Inc. Flood Relief Scholarship is open to Kirkwood students who meet the following criteria:

• Enrolled for fall and spring semesters, 2008-09;

• A minimum grade point average of 2.5; and

• Include in the scholarship application details of how the Flood of 2008 personally affected them.
