Sept. 23 session part of statewide partnership to share free information on growing industry
Biodiesel fuels have been in the news for several years. Now Kirkwood Community College will offer free classes to assist in understanding the pros and cons of this growing alternative energy source.
The course offerings are part of a statewide training link, One Source Training Iowa, a partnership linking all Iowa two-year colleges in cooperative training and education projects.
“There are some misconceptions about the viability of biodiesel fuel for our transportation and agriculture industries,” states Kirkwood Industrial Education Program Director Jeff Mitchell. “This clean-burning alternative fuel, produced from domestic, renewable resources, is a key element in our pursuit for energy independence. Biodiesel is simple to use, biodegradable, nontoxic and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics.”
Area residents who want to learn more about this clean alternative fuel can attend a three-hour course offered at Kirkwood. The first free class is Wednesday evening, Sept. 23. The classes are designed to inform people about biodiesel and its performance in diesel engines. Refreshments will be provided as part of the program.
