Caution on Potential CR Neighborhood Scam

By September 1, 2009January 16th, 2019No Comments

Kirkwood officials have learned of a possible fraud/scam that may be underway in the Cedar Rapids area. In the past several days we have learned of door-to-door solicitation for magazine sales by individuals claiming to be representing Kirkwood clubs or departments. These persons claim to be “in a contest to win prizes” or travel awards.

There are NO such sales sanctioned by Kirkwood or any student or professional group. This is not in any way affiliated with the college, its staff or students.

We caution all students and residents of the south side of Cedar Rapids to be on the alert for anyone claiming to represent Kirkwood in this type of solicitation. Anyone contacted door-to-door should ask for, and said solicitor should be able to produce, a City of Cedar Rapids-issued license. We again state that no such Kirkwood-sanctioned or organized fund-raising is taking place. We encourage anyone learning of such offers to contact local authorities or housing property managers.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
