Event to bring resources, experts and community together in Hiawatha
HIAWATHA, Iowa (May 18, 2026)–Kirkwood Community College and Heritage Area Agency on Aging will host the Corridor Conference on Aging, this Wednesday, May 20, at the Kirkwood Linn County Regional Center in Hiawatha. The free, full-day conference is designed for adults age 60 and older and will focus on healthy aging, wellness, financial planning, brain health and independent living resources.
The conference will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and feature keynote speakers, educational breakout sessions, exhibitors and local organizations that provide services and support for older adults and caregivers. Topics will include dementia awareness, fraud prevention, nutrition, home safety and technology resources for seniors.
“People are living longer, more active lives, and it’s important that they have access to trusted information and local resources that can help them continue to thrive,” said Kirkwood Continuing Education Program Manager Debi Stark. “The Corridor Conference on Aging brings together experts and community partners who understand the challenges and opportunities that come with aging. Attendees will leave with practical ideas, valuable connections and a better understanding of the services available to support themselves and their families.”
The event is free for adults 60 and older, though preregistration is required. Organizers say the conference is intended to connect attendees with practical tools and community resources that support healthy, active aging.
“We want people to feel informed, empowered and encouraged about the future,” said Heritage Area Agency on Aging Community Engagement Coordinator Harrison March. “This conference is an opportunity to connect individuals and families with resources they may not know exist right here in their community. By bringing together experts and service providers in one place, we’re helping remove barriers and making it easier for people to take the next step in planning for their future.”
