Dairo Gonzalez
Eagles standout putting up impressive numbers
Kirkwood Eagles third baseman Dairo Gonzalez has earned Player of the Week honors for the week of April 22-28. During that time he continued his season-long tear of great offensive production and dominance over opponents.
Gonzalez was recognized after hitting .517 (15-for-29), including six homeruns, and two doubles. He also had 19 RBIs and scored 14 runs as well. He ended the week with a 1.207 slugging percentage. Gonzalez’s impressive stats over that span don’t surprise Head Coach Todd Rima.
“Dairo has been fantastic for us all season,” said Rima. “He leads the league in homeruns, RBI’s and average in conference play. He’s really bought into playing the game with great effort.”
The third baseman leads the Eagles in almost all offensive categories. For the season, he is hitting .423 with eight homeruns, 14 doubles and 46 RBI’s.
Gonzalez, a sophomore from Lake Worth, FL, has signed a national letter of intent to continue his career at Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis, MO after this season.
The Eagles (30-14, 13-11) start postseason play this Thursday with the Region XI tournament at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo, IA. The tournament runs through the weekend with the champion crowned on Sunday.
