Kirkwood will again play Dawson at 3 p.m. today at the Kirkwood Softball Complex. The divisional playoff is a double elimination tournament. If Kirkwood loses the first game, the second game will follow at 5 p.m.

Eagles now host a divisional playoff for a chance at the national tournament
The Kirkwood Eagles softball team continued their impressive season by winning the Region XI championship game versus DMACC. The win extended Kirkwood’s winning streak to 45. Next up for the Eagles is a three-team divisional playoff at the Kirkwood Softball Complex.
According to Head Coach Joe Yegge, Kirkwood’s leaders shined when it counted most, but overall it was total team effort that got the job done.
“I really think Amber Logemann and Shy Saladino were awesome in the circle,” said Yegge. “Lauren Smith, Leah Duffe and Kadarenna Sales were awesome at the plate. I am also very proud of how the sophomore class has led this team all year. They seem very pleased and excited that all their hard work paid off this year. But, the awesome thing is that they are still focused on the task at hand with districts.”
Two other teams along with Kirkwood will be vying for a spot in the national tournament. Region IX Champion Dawson Community College (Glendive, MT) and Region XIII Champion Dakota County Technical College (Rosemount, MN) are both in Kirkwood’s way in their quest for a championship. Yegge says that despite the higher stakes, the team won’t do anything different in preparing for the competition.
“As always, we are going to take them one game at a time,” said Yegge. “We don’t really know much about either of them, but we will approach them as if they are the number one team in the country.”
The three-team divisional playoff will take place today and Friday. The winner earns a trip to the national tournament.
