Eagles Beat Frederick, Move on to Second Round

Danville, Ill. (March 15, 2016)-The Kirkwood men’s basketball team defeated Frederick Community College in the first round of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Tournament by a score of 86-61. The third-seeded Eagles will face the sixth-seeded Louisburg College (N.C.).

Kirkwood was led by sophomores Josh Meier and Nick Richards who both scored 13 points. As a team, the Eagles shot 39 percent in the first half. However, they exploded in the second half by shooting 71 percent including 87 percent from beyond the arc.

Head Coach Bryan Petersen, now in his third season, guided the team to it’s first regional championship under his leadership. The Eagles, ranked sixth in the nation, are now 28-4 overall and went 10-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) regular season.

Tipoff for the Eagles game versus Louisburg is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Wednesday (3/16). The tournament, taking place in in Danville, Illinois, will continue through March 19.
