The Heritage Agency on Aging has more Caregiver Education sessions planned for the first part of 2011. The free one-hour programs are designed to give assistance and skills to adults caring for family or friends in need. The sessions will address some of the most prevalent and important topics to home and family caregivers in the area.

All sessions will be held at Milestones Adult Day Health Center, 1725 O Avenue NW in Cedar Rapids. The events are free and open to the public, with an opportunity for questions and dialogue in each program. The dates and topics include:

January 20, 2011; 3-4 p.m.: Understanding Advanced Directives. Speaker: Cedar Rapids attorney Martha Quint. Attendees can gain a greater knowledge of the legal documentation older adults and their caregivers should have.

February 17, 2011; 3-4 pm.: Medicaid Eligibility. Local attorney Martha Quint will return for a discussion of Medicaid eligibility requirements plus the process of enrolling in the state-sponsored program.

March 9, 2011; 4-5 pm.: Veteran’s Benefits. Speaker: Don Tyne, Linn County Veterans Affairs director. Attendees can learn about the benefits and programs available to Iowa veterans and their spouses.
