Cedar Rapids, Iowa (March 11, 2014)—Kirkwood Community Colleges’ two-day conference, Beyond Rubies, attracts humorous speakers to inspire professional development and personal growth by women in the corridor. This year’s conference will be held March 27 and 28 at the Kirkwood Center on main campus.

Day one of the conference features keynote, Laurie Guest. Guest, a highly sought after humorous speaker with 24 years of experience in healthcare, will present “Life in the Espresso Lane.” The presentation promises to motivate, provoke laughter and offer strategies so women can find contentment during stressful times.

The second day, Motivational Humorist Deadra Stanton will look at how today’s work world needs to be ready for changes with her address “Fines Double in Road Construction.” Stanton holds a Master’s of Education from St. Mary’s University and owns Creative Communications in Waterloo.

“Beyond Rubies is a conference for women of all generations and backgrounds to learn practical ideas on how to succeed, while juggling increasingly complex and diverse life demands,” says Erin Brokel, program coordinator. “Women can come together and network about a full range of issues for mind, body and spirit.”

Participants can register for multiple days or just attend one. Enrollment includes lunch and three workshops per day on topics ranging from starting a business to super foods for women. Keynote events are open to everyone attending.
