Tell us about your family: I live with my mom in Marion and I have an older brother, Dave. My family all lives in Marion, within a few miles of each other. I am very blessed that I get to see my family every week!

Tell us about high school: I went to Linn-Mar in Marion, and I was a student ambassador. One of my favorite opportunities was getting to give the class reunion tours. I was also involved with Student Council and was honored to be senior class president. One of my favorite activities was being a cheerleader for all four years in basketball and football.

What made you decide on Kirkwood?: I decided on Kirkwood because of the hospitality program and I received the Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship.

What are you studying with us?: I received my baking and pastry arts diploma my freshman year and am now finishing up my liberal arts degree. After graduating from the Bakery program I got hired as the lead cake decorator at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center. I love that job! It’s especially fun working with brides and grooms on their wedding preparations. I plan on transferring to Mount Mercy University to get a degree in marketing and a minor in art.

How did you decide on a college field to pursue?: I decided on bakery by following in my grandma’s footsteps. While growing up, I always watched her decorate everything from Christmas cookies, to wedding cakes to all of the grandkids’ birthday cakes. As I got older, my grandma began teaching me a few things and letting me help her out. I am blessed to have my amazing grandma to introduce me into the career I love and hope that I can make her proud with everything I do in my future.

What are your activities beyond work and classes?: I have really enjoyed my involvement with the Cedar Rapids Dance Marathon. Next year will be my third year of involvement. This next year will be my third, and I am super excited to have received the Executive Director position. Last year we raised over $20,000! I’m beyond excited to take over the lead position and set even more goals for our amazing Miracle kiddos and their families.

Where do you see yourself in about five years?: I see myself finished with school and working towards opening up an amazing business. A co-worker and I are planning on opening a bakery of our own in the area. I am beyond excited to work with her and tag-team running a bakery that the Cedar Rapids area has not seen yet!
