Three Silver Citations for Diverse Promo Materials

All year long the communications and image efforts of Kirkwood Community College Marketing Services influences many thousands of students, their parents and the wider community. Recently they made some pretty strong impressions on their promotional peers, too.

Graphics, design, printing and writing efforts of the department earned three Silver ADDY Awards in the 2009-10 competition of the American Advertising Federation: Cedar Rapids-Iowa City chapter.

Awards were presented at the ad organization’s annual event at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art Saturday evening, Feb. 20. Kirkwood Marketing Services won Silver awards for the college’s Athletics season viewbooks; a promotional folder for The Hotel at Kirkwood Center; and KCCK-FM’s poster promoting the station’s new HD Radio “88.3-2” service highlighting “home-grown” Iowa musical talent.

Kirkwood Graphics Communications student Seth Cruise also won top honors in the Student Design category. Cruise, a December 2009 Kirkwood graduate, won for a powerful public service poster to raise awareness about domestic violence toward women on a global scale.

Kirkwood was also the focus of yet another award. OPN Architects, Inc. of Cedar Rapids won an ADDY Silver Award for design and installation of academic kiosks in the college’s new Cedar Hall Academic Addition. The inventive computer kiosk design won in the “Exterior-Static” category.
