Student club receives $5,000 from Sam’s Club

Students from the Kirkwood Community College chapter of SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) continue to receive recognition for the club’s hard work. Kent Vogel, local Sam’s Club manager, presented the students with a $5,000 check in appreciation of the student’s continued efforts with community projects.

“It is a great honor for our students to be awarded by Sam’s Club,” said SIFE Faculty Advisor Todd Saville. “These students work very hard to make an impact in the community, as well as on other student’s lives. We are very grateful for the donation from Sam’s Club and can’t thank them enough for their support.”

Last year, the SIFE team executed a successful project at McKinley Middle School in Cedar Rapids that led to national recognition. The group worked with McKinley students conducting an energy audit, installing motion sensors in restrooms and starting the school’s environmental club. This project earned the SIFE team a third place finish in the Sam’s Club Environmental Sustainability Challenge.
