Iowa UNA group salutes “dedication and support” in award

A veteran member of the Kirkwood Community College adjunct faculty was recently honored by a local student group with global awareness and focus.

Dr. Jeremy Brigham received the Garst Award for Leadership for his role as faculty advisor to the United Nations Association Student Alliance at Kirkwood. The group sponsors UN relevant programs on the Kirkwood Campus.

In his leadership role Dr. Brigham was saluted for “demonstrated dedication and an ability to connect with every member of the organization.”

In the words of one of his students: [Dr. Brigham] “is more than an advisor. He is a surrogate family member to the students in the United Nations Association Student Alliance. He teaches students valuable lessons…”

The Garst Award for Leadership is awarded to an individual serving in a leadership role whose position supports or exemplifies the goals of the UN and the UNA-USA. Other awards for Dr. Brigham include Outstanding Male Advisor at Kirkwood’s Awards Banquet this April. Dr. Brigham is also immediate past program chair in the Linn County Chapter of UNA-USA. He served from 1999-2009.

The UNA student group presented its awards at ceremonies in Cedar Rapids on April 24.
