CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (April 13, 2026)—Kirkwood Community College will host its 2026 Celebration of Success on Thursday, April 23, honoring distinguished alumni, community leaders and business partners during the Kirkwood Foundation’s premier annual event.
The celebration will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center and will include a formal awards presentation along with a dinner prepared by students and faculty from the college’s nationally recognized Culinary Arts program.
Organized in partnership with the Alumni Leadership Council, the Celebration of Success recognizes individuals and organizations whose achievements reflect the mission and values of Kirkwood Community College. Honorees are selected for their professional accomplishments, leadership and lasting contributions to their communities and industries.
This year’s recipients include Van Meter Inc., which will receive the President’s Award for its longstanding partnership and support of the college. Seth Vander Tuig will be honored with the Trustees’ Award, recognizing exemplary service and leadership. Michael Klappholz will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for his enduring impact and commitment to excellence.
Kirkwood will also present Distinguished Alumni Awards to Dan and Judy Lubben, Ashley Vanorny and Rick Willows. These awards highlight graduates who have demonstrated notable success in their careers while maintaining strong connections to the college and giving back to their communities.
The Celebration of Success serves as an opportunity to showcase the impact of Kirkwood alumni and partners while reinforcing the college’s role in preparing students for meaningful careers and community leadership.
