Alpha Eta Rho Presents Music Education Day

Alpha Eta Rho, Kirkwood’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, invites you to Music Education Day, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 12. This event will be in Benton and Cedar Halls at Kirkwood Community College’s Cedar Rapids Campus. This event is free and open to the public.

There will be rooms dedicated to the history of music; how music relates to math, science, reading, language, social sciences and music therapy; as well as a hands-on room for children. There will be various speakers addressing different music-related topics, live performances, and food and /beverage will be available throughout the day.

Music Education Day is set to:

  •  Educate the public about the need of music in education and how it increases students’ grades.
  • Introduce the public to Alpha Eta Rho’s (the local chapter of Phi Theta Kappa) project of creating a free music program in Cedar Rapids, in coordination with Orchestra Iowa and the Jane Boyd House.
  • Gather donations of money and instruments for the project.
