What is your background?: I go to Iowa City West High school and live with my mom Brenda and my sister Elena. I was born in Muscatine, Iowa. My family and I moved to Iowa City when I was in fifth grade and my sister was in fourth.

What brought you to Kirkwood and why?: I saw an email in my inbox that stated that I could earn dual enrollment credit. I wasn’t sure what that meant. So, I told my mom and she said I should join the informational meeting held later that day. When I went, I realized all the opportunities that I could take advantage of. My mom was the one who really guided me down this path. I was thinking about how this is similar to AP courses and that I didn’t need it. But then my mom brought up how much money and time I would be saving by starting my college courses now. I met with Kirkwood staff to find out how I could do something like this. They showed me how I could complete my prerequisites and guided me on how to get started. The staff have helped my sister and I through this process and made it seem less overwhelming.

What is your program of study and what interests you about it?: I am hoping to go onto Tippie Business school at the University of Iowa. Right now, I am finishing all of my business prerequisites by the time I complete my Kirkwood degree. I am almost done with them now and am planning to walk the stage during the May graduation ceremony. I would like to get my MBA and then go on to be a Financial Analyst on Wall Street.

Are you involved in anything else on campus? If so, what and why?: I am only taking my Kirkwood courses through dual enrollment on the regional center campus and I am also involved in Phi Theta Kappa. I got the email from Phi Theta Kappa and decided that it would be a good choice to join after I saw all the benefits they could provide like scholarships and connections for networking.

Are you involved in anything off of campus?: I am currently involved in Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Concert Band with my school. I am also a part of the Biology Olympiad club. I also volunteer at my church, play soccer and have a job at Target.

What do you do for fun?: I love to read and watch movies in my free time. I also like going out with friends and playing soccer when I get the chance. My family and I also like to go traveling and watching live sporting events.

Where do you see yourself in five years?: If everything goes as planned, I will be in the last year of my MBA Program because I would have already finished my first AA degree, putting myself 2 years ahead in college.
