Patriotic Pops Concert at Kirkwood, June 19

Kirkwood Community College will once again host one of the enduring traditions of the Freedom Festival. The annual Patriotic Pops Concert is set for Saturday, June 19, 2010 on the grounds of Kirkwood’s main Cedar Rapids campus.

Revel to Patriotic Pops performed by the nationally-acclaimed 80-piece Orchestra Iowa, under the director of music director and conductor Maestro Timothy Hankewich. This year’s Patriotic Pops concert is sponsored by Veridian Credit Union and the Linn County Board of Supervisors. Maestro Hankewich and the orchestra command the stage beginning at 8 p.m. The musical evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with the talents of eastern Iowa artist and American Idol contestant, Kelsey Madsen.

The evening finale is a display of dazzling fireworks, sponsored by Rockwell Collins, following the concert. For those unable to attend the concert, a live broadcast will air on KMRY-1450 AM/HD radio.

Concert attendees are invited to bring a chair or blanket (except for those purchasing Preferred Seating). No non-essential food or drink items allowed. Kirkwood is an alcohol and tobacco-free campus. No pets or sparklers, please.

Handicapped parking is available in the lot across from Jones Hall. Additional parking and shuttle buses to/from the concert will be at Prairie High School, 401 76th Av SW. A Freedom Festival button is required for admission. Buttons will be available for purchase at the gate.
