The honors and awards kept coming to the Kirkwood Community College women’s basketball team, days after the photos, trophy and net-cutting. The National Junior College Athletic Conference has named two Kirkwood Eagles sophomore women to the Kodak All-American roster.

McKensey Long was named to the NJCAA Division II First Team. The 5-8 guard from Carthage, Ill. was also named to the WBCA/State Farm All-American Team following the D-II national tournament in Peoria. El Sara Greer, a 6-2 forward from Waterloo, Iowa was named to the NJCAA All-American Second Team.

Long averaged a team high 10.5 points and 3.7 assists per game. She was a member of the all-tournament team at both the Nationals and Regional tournament. Long plans to continue as a student-athlete with a four-year college program, but has not yet decided.

El Sara Greer was named an NJCAA D-II Second Team All-American. Greer earned MVP honors for both the Division II national and Region XI tournaments. She set a Kirkwood college record for blocked shots in a season (111) and career (196). She averaged 7.0 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. Greer will continue her college career at a four-year college or university, and is currently considering one of four notable programs–Creighton, Oregon State, University of Texas- San Antonio or University of Nevada- Las Vegas.

The Kirkwood Eagles women won a third straight NJCAA Division II championship in March, an accomplishment unprecedented in community college women’s sports. Their 36-1 season included a 30-game win streak that culminated in the national championship. In the three-peat seasons beginning in 2006, Kim Muhl and his teams amassed a total record of 102-8.
