Kirkwood Advances to the National Championship Game

Danville, Ill. (March 18, 2016)-The Kirkwood men’s basketball team won their semifinal game 77-66 against Essex County College on Friday night. The team now moves on to the national championship game on Saturday night (3/19). For complete coverage, go to www.kirkwoodeagles.com.

Eagles Defeat Louisburg, Advance to Semifinals

Danville, Ill. (March 16, 2016)-The Kirkwood men’s basketball team defeated Louisburg College in an 89-83 overtime game in the second round of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Tournament. The third-seeded Eagles will face the seventh-seeded Essex County Wolverines (N.J.) in the semifinals on Friday at 6 p.m.

Five Kirkwood players scored in double figures including sophomore guard Nick Richards who led the team with 22 points and six rebounds. As a team, the Eagles shot 43 percent from the field in a hard fought game.

Head Coach Bryan Petersen, now in his third season, guided the team to it’s first regional championship under his leadership. The Eagles, ranked sixth in the nation, are now 29-4 overall and went 10-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) regular season.

Essex County is 28-4 on the season and was third in the last NJCAA national poll. Tipoff for the Eagles semifinal game versus Essex County is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday (3/18).

The tournament, taking place in in Danville, Illinois, will continue through March 19.
