July Student of the Month: Seth Deutmeyer

By July 14, 2016October 25th, 2018No Comments

What is your background?: I am originally from Stone City, Iowa and moved to Marion , Iowa when I was 12 and graduated from Linn Mar high school. I have one sister, Olivia, my mother Jennifer and father Mike.

What brought you to Kirkwood and why?: I came to Kirkwood because I knew, especially right away that a large four-year school would not be for me. Kirkwood is great because you really do get the college experience with a small classroom feel and great learning opportunities. I could not be happier with my decision to attend Kirkwood.

What is your program of study and what interests you about it?: I am studying agriculture business. It’s a great program because it covers a broad range of classes from soils and row crops to economics and accounting. As a young and fairly inexperienced farmer it’s very beneficial to me to study and gain knowledge of all these different areas of the agriculture industry.

Are you involved in anything else outside of classes? If so, what and why?: I participated in intramural flag football last fall and it was very fun. I plan to be a student ambassador for the 2016-17 year. Being an ambassador will be an awesome way to meet and connect with new people all of the time. I’m really looking forward to it!

What do you do for fun?: Outside of school and work I like to do a lot of fun things. Most importantly, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I’d like to give a huge shoutout to my mom and dad. They are the greatest. I also enjoy being active, hunting, fishing, golfing and going boating on the weekends during the summer.

Where do you see yourself in five years?: I see myself with a two-year degree in Agriculture Business and continuing to pursuing my career with our family owned business Weber Stone Company. I also see myself farming with my father.
